RECAP – Round 3: Thunder Valley

Hymas Sweeps the Day at Thunder Valley for the First Time in His Career

From start to finish, Chance Hymas took control of round three of the 250 class at Thunder Valley. Each session on track, Hymas was undeniably the fastest 250 class rider. It was nothing short of a perfect day for Chance, taking pole position in qualifying, leading all laps on route to both moto wins capturing the overall victory while establishing the fastest lap time in both motos. After a sub-par performance at round two due to illness, Hymas returned with vengeance in dominant fashion, proving this 250 class championship is far from over.

Mistakes and Issues Strike Deegan, Win Streak Ends at Round 3

Entering round three of the Pro Motocross Championship having captured all four of the previous moto wins this season, Deegan’s dominance appeared to have no end in sight. Unfortunately, costly mistakes and misfortune struck, ending his hopes for a perfect season. In moto one, he was in good position from the start, battling with championship rivals Tom Vialle and Chance Hymas. While attempting to catch Hymas to take the lead of the moto, two critical errors in sector five of the race track would set him back from making the pass. As the moto progressed, the engine of his motorcycle began to steam, signaling an issue. Pit board communication from his team, Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha, told him to attempt to save the motorcycle engine from failing. This shunted all hopes at catching Hymas but Deegan would end up salvaging second place in the moto, 45.677 seconds behind Hymas. In moto two, a slight mistake entering the first turn of the race track stalled his chances of catching Hymas. After this mistake his lap times increased two-three seconds slower than before the crash. He would have to settle for second place in the moto and second place overall at Thunder Valley.

J. Lawrence Fights Off Pressure in Both Motos to Capture Overall Victory

Among the list of Jett Lawrence’s strengths is his ability to get good starts and put himself in strong positions in the opening laps of the moto. It is a key contributing factor to his high win rate in Pro Motocross but up until the 2025 campaign, Jett has not faced many challenges. Thunder Valley broke this trend with strong performances from Aaron Plessinger in moto one and Eli Tomac in moto two. Plessinger looked to be a man on a mission in moto one, catching Jett and passing the Honda HRC Progressive rider after a slight mistake. Jett did regain the lead shortly after to take the moto win but had to remain consistent until the checkered flag as Plessinger finished three seconds behind.

In his home state of Colorado, Eli Tomac gave his fans something to cheer for in moto two as he battled from 8th position on the opening lap to the rear tire of Jett Lawrence. Tomac averaged faster lap times than J. Lawrence throughout the moto and even registered a quicker lap time (2:15.208), 0.386 seconds faster. Although he appeared to have a faster pace than Jett, a loss of front tire traction while entering a turn would cause Tomac to crash late in the moto and settle for second place. Jett remained consistent in both motos when it mattered most and was able to capture the overall victory at Thunder Valley.
