RECAP – Round 2: Hangtown

Casey Cochran Records His First Laps Lead of the 2025 Campaign

In his second race back from a leg injury which saw him miss the entire 2025 Monster Energy Supercross season, Casey Cochran had a statement performance at Hangtown. Cochran quickly took hold of the lead after a mistake from Chance Hymas on the opening lap of moto one. Ultimately, Cochran was able to lead five laps and remained in a podium position until lap 12. Although he finished the first moto in 12th position, his pace at the beginning of the moto proved he could compete at the front of the 250 class. He registered the third fastest lap time (2:00.284) of the moto just shy of Jo Shimoda and Haiden Deegan. Cochran backed up his stellar opening lap performance from moto one, this time starting moto two by registering the holeshot. He was unable to record a lap led but remained in the top three for the opening four laps of the moto. Similar to moto one, Cochran lost several positions as the race progressed and finished 12th. Finishing with 12-12 moto finishes for 11th place overall, the results did not do justice for the performance Cochran had.

Deegan Battles to the Lead to Sweep Round 2

Haiden Deegan repeats his performance at Fox Raceway with another dominate race at round two to remain perfect through the first four motos of the season. In motorsports, it’s common for the fastest person to win and Deegan proved that at Hangtown. Starting 6th in moto one, Deegan found himself in 1st place by lap seven while registering the fastest lap of the moto (1:58.826) on lap three, 0.866 seconds faster than the second fastest rider, Jo Shimoda. He remained unchallenged after lap seven and took the moto win nearly seven seconds ahead of Shimoda. Moto two was a similar story for Deegan, this time starting third and reaching first place by lap three and taking the moto win over nine seconds ahead of Shimoda. Again, he recorded the fastest lap of the moto (2:00.792), 0.698 seconds faster than closest rival Levi Kitchen. Speed prevailed for Deegan at Hangtown, once again proving to be the one to beat in the 250 class.

Tomac Falls Short of Overall Victory After A Crash in Moto 2

At the race track he won his first overall victory in his professional debut in 2010, Tomac found himself in position to take his fifth overall victory at Hangtown after a dominate performance in moto one. In notorious Tomac fashion, he charged his way to the front of the field, reaching and passing Aaron Plessinger with two laps remaining to take his first moto win at Hangtown since June 4, 2022. With subtle challenge from Jett Lawrence to match Eli’s pace, Tomac gained the confidence of being able to beat Jett straight up. A key factor was Tomacs ability to start in front of Jett, a luxury he did not have in moto two. After clashing with Valentin Guillod as the gate dropped, Tomac began moto two in 18th position. Meanwhile, Jett Lawrence led the moto and was in position to take the overall win. Tomac managed to reach eighth position on lap five but a crash in sector three dropped him back to 12th. He was unable to remount a charge and would settle for ninth position, landing him shy of the overall podium in fourth place behind teammate Justin Cooper.
